China-Central Asia Summit: Energy cooperation as an important component of sustainable development in the region

On 18-19 May 2023, President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China, President Tokaev of the Republic of Kazakhstan, President Zaparov of the Kyrgyz Republic, President Rahmon of the Republic of Tajikistan, President Berdymukhamedov of Turkmenistan and President Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan jointly held the China-Central Asia Summit in Xi'an.

The parties agreed to take the tenth anniversary of the "Belt and Road" initiative as a new starting point, strengthen the docking of the "Belt and Road" initiative with the "Bright Road" new economic policy of Kazakhstan, the "National Development Programme until 2026" of Kyrgyzstan, the "National Development Strategy until 2030" of Tajikistan, the "Revival of the Silk Road" strategy of Turkmenistan, the "New Uzbekistan" development strategy for 2022-2026 and other initiatives and development strategies of the five Central Asian countries, deepen practical cooperation in various fields, and form a new pattern of cooperation that is deeply complementary and highly win-win.

In the area of energy:

The parties support the establishment of the China-Central Asia Energy Development Partnership, expand cooperation in the entire energy industry chain, further expand cooperation in traditional energy fields such as oil, natural gas and coal, strengthen cooperation in renewable energy sources such as hydro, solar and wind power, deepen cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, implement projects in green technology and clean energy, and practice the innovation, coordination, green, open and shared The parties pointed out that a stable energy supply is vital to the development of the country.

The Parties note the importance of stable energy supply for the development of economic, trade and investment cooperation and support the acceleration of the construction of the China-Central Asia Gas Pipeline Line D.

The Parties note that energy cooperation is an important component of sustainable development in the region.

The Parties note the initiative to develop a UN strategy aimed at the development of low-carbon energy and to develop a roadmap for international cooperation on priority development of hydrogen energy under the auspices of the UN.
