Today (15th), PetroChina announced that the largest ultra deep condensate gas field in China, Bozi Dabei Gas Field in Tarim Basin, has been fully completed and put into operation, marking that the new trillion cubic meter atmospheric area in the Tarim Basin has entered a new stage of large-scale development, adding new guarantees for the safe and stable gas supply of the West East Gas Pipeline.

Bozi Dabei Gas Field is located at the southern foot of the Tianshan Mountains in Xinjiang, and is a national key project. The gas field covers an area of over 13000 square kilometers and is located in Baicheng and Wensu counties. The comprehensive completion of surface engineering construction in the gas field has effectively ensured the stable supply of natural gas and emergency peak shaving.

Wang Chaohui, a senior expert in the Oil and Gas Field Capacity Construction Division of PetroChina Tarim Oilfield, has built three major ground skeleton projects, including a natural gas processing plant, a condensate stabilization device, and an oil and gas export pipeline. The maximum annual gas transmission capacity has increased from 5 billion to 12 billion cubic meters, enabling the interconnection of the South Tianshan ultra deep gas field group.

The gas field belongs to a new trillion cubic meters atmospheric area discovered in the ultra deep layers of Tarim Oilfield in recent years. Tarim Oilfield has drilled more than 100 deep wells here, and is expected to produce over 9 billion cubic meters of condensate gas and over 600000 tons of condensate oil this year.

Li Zhiming, the person in charge of the Boda Oil and Gas Production Management Zone of PetroChina Tarim Oilfield, said: After more than 450 days of tense construction, the daily gas supply capacity of this project will increase from 25 million cubic meters before production to 31 million cubic meters. If a family of three uses 1.5 cubic meters of daily gas, we can provide daily gas for more than 20 million households every day.

Condensate, also known as natural gasoline, is rich in rare hydrocarbon components such as aromatics and light hydrocarbons, and is a high-end petrochemical raw material urgently needed by the country. Condensate gas is natural gas containing condensate oil. The global condensate oil and gas resources are mainly distributed in Central Asia, Russia, and North America, with burial depths ranging from 1500 to 4000 meters, belonging to medium to shallow atmospheric gas reservoirs. China is mostly a deep condensate gas reservoir, with more than 80% of its proven reserves concentrated in the Tarim Basin, which is stored in rocks seven or eight kilometers underground.

Bozi Dabei Gas Field produces millions of tons of condensate oil and gas annually

Bozi Dabei Gas Field is the main source of natural gas production growth in China. In recent years, it has increased condensate oil and gas production by millions of tons annually, becoming a new growth pole to ensure national energy security.

This year, Tarim Oilfield has put 15 new ultra deep gas wells into operation in Bozi Dabei Gas Field, with a new natural gas production capacity of 1.1 billion cubic meters. In the past three years, 51 ultra deep gas wells have been put into operation here, with the highest daily natural gas production climbing to 26 million cubic meters.

At present, there are 18 ultra deep wells being drilled here. According to the plan, by 2025, the annual natural gas production of Bozi Dabei Gas Field will reach 10 billion cubic meters, and the annual condensate production will reach 1.02 million tons, equivalent to adding a million ton level high efficiency oil field.

In recent years, we have overcome a series of "bottleneck" problems in the Bozi Dabei gas field, such as ultra deep drilling, completion, and scale efficiency development. Before and after the renovation, the open flow rate of the gas well has increased by five times, achieving condensate gas

Zhou Jianping, Chief Engineer of CNPC Tarim Oilfield Boda Oil and Gas Production Management Zone: In recent years, we have overcome a series of "bottleneck" problems in the Bozi Dabei Gas Zone, such as ultra deep drilling and completion, and scale efficiency development. Before and after the transformation, the open flow rate of gas wells has increased by five times, achieving the leap of condensate gas field exploration and development technology from deep to ultra deep, from high pressure to ultra-high pressure, and from high-quality reservoirs to complex reservoirs.

Through the supporting condensate deep recovery project in Tarim Oilfield, over 10 billion cubic meters of condensate gas are processed annually in Xinjiang, increasing the added value of natural gas by more than four times, effectively driving the development of high-end chemical manufacturing and chemical fiber textile industry in Xinjiang.

Filling Multiple Technical Gaps in the Development of Condensate Oil and Gas in Tarim Oilfield

Most of the condensate oil and gas in the Tarim Basin are stored in rocks seven or eight kilometers underground, which is very difficult to exploit. Technicians have increased scientific and technological research, overcome a series of problems in the development of ultra deep and ultra high pressure condensate gas fields, and provided support for industrial scale application.

Recently, the cumulative production of condensate oil and gas in Bozi Block of Tarim Oilfield has exceeded 10 million tons, and key engineering and technical bottlenecks such as clean completion, well integrity, and high-pressure long-distance mixed transportation have been overcome, creating multiple new records for drilling depth and production pressure of condensate oil and gas in China.

Zhou Jianping, Chief Engineer of Boda Oil and Gas Production Management Zone of PetroChina Tarim Oilfield, said: "We have continuously challenged the technical limits of ultra deep engineering in the South Tianshan Mountains and successfully developed more than 20 ultra deep oil and gas blocks. The deepest gas well has reached over 8200 meters, setting a record for the deepest development of sandstone gas reservoirs in China. The oil and gas production in ultra deep gas zones has filled more than 30 technical gaps.

Through years of hard work, Tarim Oilfield has improved the reservoir formation theory of ultra-deep and ultra-high pressure condensate gas fields, and explored the formation of a series of effective development technologies. As of now, the cumulative production of condensate oil and gas has exceeded 160 million tons, and the annual oil and gas equivalent has exceeded 12 million tons.

Wang Chaohui, a senior expert at the Oil and Gas Field Capacity Construction Division of PetroChina Tarim Oilfield, said that currently, Tarim Oilfield has successfully developed 14 deep condensate gas fields, including Yaha, Dina, Tazhong 1, Bozi, and Dabei, with an annual production of 15 billion cubic meters of condensate gas and 1.5 million tons of condensate oil, effectively supporting the industrial scale application of condensate oil and gas.
