On 21 November, Sinopec and Qatar Energy signed a 27-year long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) purchase and sale agreement, under which Qatar Energy will supply 4 million tonnes of LNG per year to Sinopec. The agreement is an important part of the integrated cooperation between the two companies on the Qatar Northern Gas Field expansion project and is a milestone. Sinopec Chairman Ma Yongsheng and H.E. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of Qatar Energy, signed the agreement together in an online format. Ma Yongsheng said that the friendly and close relations between China and Qatar and the natural complementarity in the energy sector have created a favorable environment for the two sides to continuously deepen their cooperation. The signing of this agreement is in line with Sinopec's tenet and requirement to adhere to green, low-carbon, safe and sustainable development, which will not only help to meet the demand for natural gas in the Chinese market, but also further optimise the structure of China's energy consumption and enhance the security, stability and reliability of energy supply. We are delighted to have reached this agreement, which will further strengthen the excellent bilateral relationship between China and Qatar and will help to meet China's growing demand for clean energy," said H.E. Al-Kaabi. The cooperation, which spans different sectors and will last for 27 years, is extraordinary and exciting and opens a new chapter of cooperation between the two sides. It is reported that the Northern Gas Field Expansion Project is expected to come on stream in 2026. This agreement is the second long-term LNG purchase and sale agreement signed between Sinopec and Qatar Energy, and the first long-term LNG purchase and sale agreement for the Northern Gas Field Expansion Project in Qatar.
